Melbourne's convention precinct
Nowhere
is Melbourne's conventions and events focus more evident than
along the tree-lined banks and promenades of Melbourne's picturesque
Yarra River. It's a precinct that specifically allows delegates
to make the most of every moment of their stay in Australia's
cultural, sporting, food, fashion and business capital.
Bordered
by the internationally acclaimed Melbourne Convention and Exhibition
Centre (MCEC) and the new cultural haven of Federation Square,
this precinct presents a complete events environment. It encompasses
contemporary and unique venues as well as theatres, boutiques,
restaurants and a range of 3,4, and 5 star hotels which contribute
over 4,500 accommodation rooms, all within walking distance.
With
so much being accessible by foot, tram or boat, meeting planners
and event organisers can create a variety of itineraries that
take-in one or more of the exciting facilities and still remain
within a short distance of the convention venue and their hotels.
Delegates
attending any business meeting, conference or event will be able
to experience the new Melbourne Convention Centre from mid 2009.
With three flexible plenary auditoriums, 32 meeting rooms and
integrated with 30,000 square metres of existing exhibition space
the new centre has also achieved a world first on being awarded
a '6 Star Green Star' environmental rating for its innovative
design and features. From here, it is just a short stroll to one
of the other precinct venues, such as the Crown Entertainment
Complex or Sheraton Towers for a cocktail party or gala dinner.
Or perhaps a scenic boat cruise to Federation Square or the Victorian
Arts Centre for an evening of opera, ballet or live theatre.
